A Jobber alternative built for dryer vent cleaners — by one
For years my dryer vent cleaning company ran on big-name field service software. This is why I built our own replacement, what it was like to move, and — honestly — who shouldn't bother.
By Eyal, owner of Vent Pro NYC and builder of VentCRM · Updated September 20, 2026
First, the fair part: Jobber is a good product, and for a lot of home-service companies it’s the right one. It’s built to serve dozens of trades at once, from lawn care to plumbing. That breadth is its strength — and it’s exactly why it never quite fit a small vent cleaning company.
Why I moved my own company off it
I’m Eyal, owner of Vent Pro NYC, a family-owned dryer vent cleaning company in Brooklyn. For years we paid for enterprise features we never opened, while the things a small crew touches every hour lived behind upsells.
So I built exactly what my own company needed — booking, scheduling, texting, invoicing, payments — with every screen shaped on real driveways and real basements. When our old platform closed our account in August 2026, we didn’t lose a single job: the replacement was already running the business, and it was already better than what it replaced.
That last part is the real lesson. When your customer list lives inside someone else’s platform, you’re a tenant. I wanted to be an owner.
What’s actually different
You own the system, not a seat in it
Every VentCRM operator gets their own private deployment with its own dedicated database — not a row in a shared platform. Your own booking site on your own domain, your own business texting number, your own Stripe account with payouts straight to your bank. Your customer list is physically separate from every other company’s, including mine.
It already speaks vent cleaning
General field-service software treats a vent cleaning like any other visit. VentCRM carries the things this trade sells on:
- Airflow readings (FPM) before and after, with a “restored 18×” badge customers understand.
- Before/after photos and video on the customer’s receipt.
- Google Street View photo, GPS directions, and gate and roof-access notes on every job.
- Annual re-booking: a finished job can arm next year’s visit, and the reminder goes out on its own 30 days before it’s due.
- A Google review request texted automatically the moment an invoice is paid.
One price, nothing behind an upgrade
$750 one-time white-glove setup, then $129/month. No feature tiers — nothing you need is behind an upgrade. The full breakdown, including texting and card fees, is on the pricing page.
Support from the person who built it
Email, text, or call me directly. No ticket queue, no tier-one script. I run a cleaning company on this system every day, so when something affects how you get paid tomorrow morning, I already understand why it matters.
What moving over looks like
- A 15-minute demo call. You tell me how you run your day; I walk the same workflow through the system. No payment is taken on the call.
- You send the raw material. Your logo, services, prices, and your Jobber export (or spreadsheets — if you can export it, I can load it).
- I build your system. Customers, jobs, and invoices migrated in; Stripe connected; your business texting number registered so texts actually deliver; booking rules and service area configured.
- A walkthrough on your phone. About an hour on a call with me, and you’re running.
Who should stay on Jobber
I’d rather tell you now than after a demo. Stay where you are if:
- You run a large crew and need payroll, inventory, or dispatching for hundreds of technicians. VentCRM is built for an owner-operator up to roughly five trucks.
- You depend on a specific integration in Jobber’s ecosystem. Bring it to the demo and I’ll tell you straight whether VentCRM covers the need.
- You want a self-serve app you can sign up for in five minutes with a credit card. VentCRM is a done-for-you setup — that’s the point, but it isn’t instant.
If none of that is you, the fastest way to judge is to open the live demo on your phone — it’s the real product running a fictional company, no signup. For how VentCRM stacks up against the other big field-service apps, see the honest comparison.
Common questions
- Can you migrate my Jobber customers, jobs, and invoices?
- Yes. Migrating out of Jobber is built into VentCRM — customers, jobs, and invoices — because it's exactly the migration my own company went through. It's included in setup. Coming from spreadsheets or another system works too: if you can export it, I can load it.
- Is VentCRM affiliated with Jobber?
- No. VentCRM is an independent system built from scratch by a working dryer vent cleaning operator. Jobber is a trademark of its owner; VentCRM is not affiliated with or endorsed by Jobber.
- Is VentCRM cheaper than Jobber?
- It depends on the Jobber plan you're on and which add-ons you pay for — check Jobber's pricing page for their current numbers. VentCRM is one price with everything included: $750 one-time setup and $129/month, with texting billed at cost and card fees paid to Stripe directly. There are no feature tiers, so nothing you need is behind an upgrade.
- What happens to my data if I leave VentCRM?
- There's no contract. Clients, invoices, leads, and Stripe payout history export to CSV from inside the app any time, self-serve. On cancellation you also get a complete export of everything. Your customer list is yours — that's the whole point of having your own system.
- Do I have to switch all at once?
- No. Your current system keeps running while yours is being built and your data is loaded in. Bring that question to the demo and we'll plan a cutover that doesn't put a single booked job at risk.
